Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured that all 16 regions of Ghana will have passport application centres by December 2025.
Speaking at a ceremony where five prominent Ghanaians—travel vlogger Wode Maya, Grammy-nominated reggae musician Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster and entrepreneur Anita Erskine, contemporary artist Ibrahim Mahama, and British-Ghanaian entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng MBE—were honoured with diplomatic passports, the Minister outlined ongoing efforts to expand and improve passport services across the country.
He revealed that the first of the new centres will open this month in Bolgatanga, marking the beginning of a nationwide rollout to decentralise passport services and make them more accessible.

Mr. Ablakwa highlighted reforms already implemented to make passport acquisition more efficient. He noted that applicants now receive their passports in a shorter time, with courier services available to deliver them directly—removing the inconvenience of long-distance travel to collection centres.
“Currently, seven regions are still without passport application centres. By December 2025, we will close that gap and ensure that every region has one, beginning with Bolgatanga this month,” he affirmed.
