TEWU-TUC Declares Indefinite Strike Over Unresolved Grievances

The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has announced an indefinite nationwide strike, effective Friday, September 20.

The action will affect non-teaching staff in technical and public universities, as well as employees of the Ghana Library Authority and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB).

According to the union, the decision follows the government’s persistent failure to resolve long-standing concerns of its members, despite the union’s compliance with all due procedures.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, King James Azortibah, TEWU-TUC said it has shown patience and restraint but can no longer continue under the circumstances. It cautioned that any attempt to intimidate its members would constitute an unfair labour practice.

The union noted that it officially served notice of the strike on September 8, citing continuous delays in concluding and signing conditions of service agreements. It added that repeated engagements and follow-ups with management and relevant authorities have produced no positive outcome, leaving members deeply frustrated.
