Mahama directs contractors to complete Ofankor-Nsawam road by mid-2026

President John Dramani Mahama has charged contractors working on the Ofankor-Nsawam Road project to ensure its completion by the end of the second quarter of 2026.

The President gave the directive during a site inspection on Wednesday, September 3, where he was accompanied by the Minister of Roads. While commending the progress made so far, he stressed the need for consistent work and measures to reduce inconvenience to road users.

“I can see that drivers are happy now, and I hope that from now until the project is completed, you will keep traffic flowing smoothly even as construction continues,” he told the contractors.

Reiterating the agreed deadline, he added: “We will hold you to your word. You’ve indicated that by the end of the second quarter next year, the project should be finished.”

Mr. Mahama’s comments follow rising public frustration over the poor state of major highways and the persistent gridlock along the Ofankor-Nsawam stretch, a key commuter route.

The project, which began in July 2022 under the Akufo-Addo administration, was originally scheduled for completion in July 2024. However, repeated delays linked to funding challenges have pushed back the timeline, triggering protests from drivers and residents over prolonged traffic congestion and environmental concerns.
