Shatta Wale Granted GH₵10m Bail in Ongoing Lamborghini Probe

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, bail of GH₵10 million with two sureties to be justified.

In a statement released on Thursday, August 21, EOCO confirmed that the musician was invited to assist in investigations surrounding a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which US authorities have linked to a $4 million fraud case involving Ghanaian national Nana Kwabena Amuah, currently serving a prison sentence in the United States.

“Shatta Wale was granted bail around 9 pm shortly after interrogation ended. He was granted bail of GH₵10,000,000 with two sureties to be justified,” the statement said.

The Office explained that once the sureties are vetted, the artiste will be released from custody. The ongoing inquiry follows a request from the FBI and the US Department of Justice for EOCO to trace the vehicle and uncover potential co-conspirators in Ghana. The luxury car, seized in May this year, was found in Shatta Wale’s possession. On August 15, a US District Court in Kentucky authorised the American government to take ownership of the Lamborghini as restitution for the fraud case.

EOCO revealed that while Shatta Wale publicly claimed to have purchased the car for $150,000, he has so far been unable to substantiate the transaction.

“Charles Nii Armah Mensah has been unable to identify the individual from whom he purchased the vehicle, except to say he bought it from the ‘Street’ through someone possibly called ‘ZAK’—a person he neither knows nor has any contact details for,” the statement noted.

The only documentation presented by the artiste, according to EOCO, is a customs declaration form bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, directly tied to the US case.

EOCO further disclosed that Shatta Wale arrived late for his scheduled appearance on August 20, only cooperating after his lawyer joined him at 5 pm. The interrogation continued until 9 pm before bail was granted.

“Officers eventually left the Office around 11 pm,” EOCO added.

The development has heightened public interest as the probe unfolds, with attention now on whether investigators will uncover deeper links between the seized Lamborghini and the US fraud case.
