Mobile Money Vendor Shot Dead at Ngleshie Amanfro

A 21-year-old mobile money vendor, Desmond Adzah, was shot and killed by suspected armed robbers at Quarters Junction in Ngleshie Amanfro, located in the Ga South Municipality, around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

According to a report, Desmond was ambushed by unidentified assailants while returning home from work. He was shot multiple times and rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic, but sadly succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

An eyewitness, Ruben Kumor, who had interacted with Desmond shortly before the attack, recounted the chilling moment.

“Desmond is well known here. Many of us rely on his services. I met him just after he closed and asked to withdraw GHC150, but he said he didn’t have enough cash. I went back to my office to get more money, and then I heard a gunshot. Someone later told me Desmond had been shot,” he narrated.

Despite the proximity of a police station, Kumor expressed frustration over the lack of visible police patrols at night.
“We barely see any patrols in the evenings. Even if they could assign community police—what we call ‘baby police’—to monitor the area, it would help. What happened to Desmond should never have happened,” he added.

Desmond’s sister, Erica Adzah, believes her brother’s murder was targeted and possibly carried out by people he knew.

“This wasn’t a random robbery. From what we’ve been told, he was followed. Some suspect the attackers were even friends of his. After taking his bag, they shot him because he recognized them,” she stated. Erica also mentioned that Desmond attempted to run toward their family home nearby for safety, but relatives were too frightened to leave their rooms due to the sound of gunfire.

Calling for urgent action, she added, “There needs to be a serious investigation. Motorcycle crimes are getting out of hand. The government must step up and ensure people can live and work without fear.”

The tragic killing has sparked public outcry in the community. Residents and the bereaved family are calling for a thorough police investigation, improved security, and increased night patrols to prevent future attacks on law-abiding citizens.
