The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has revealed that the key suspect in the alleged murder of an immigration officer has provided contradictory statements during interrogation.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Bright Aweh, is believed to be connected to the death of 38-year-old Steffen King Amoah, an immigration officer who went missing on July 3, 2025. According to a police statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, Aweh initially claimed he had given GH₵500,000 to the deceased — part of which was to be used to settle debts, with the remainder to be kept for later retrieval.

However, police say Aweh has so far failed to disclose the source of the large sum of money and has made several conflicting statements about the circumstances leading to Amoah’s disappearance.
Investigations revealed that on July 3, Aweh sent WhatsApp images of bundles of cash to the officer and arranged a meeting with him at Ashongman Estate around 8:00 p.m. Later, Amoah was reported missing.
Tragically, Amoah’s charred body was discovered in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate in Accra. Despite the severe burns, his family members were able to identify the body.
Following a swift response to the missing person’s report, officers from the Taifa Police Command arrested Bright Aweh in connection with the case.
The police have condemned the violent act and assured the public of a thorough and professional investigation. Authorities are also urging anyone with relevant information about the incident to come forward.
Below is the official statement from the police.
