Mahama Appoints Former Bawumia Aide Rosemond Obeng as Senior Presidential Staffer

Rosemond Obeng, a former close associate of ex-NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been appointed as a Senior Presidential Staffer in the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.

Obeng made headlines in the lead-up to the December 2024 general elections when she dramatically resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and joined the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Her defection, which occurred just days before the polls, sparked widespread debate across the political landscape.

After her switch, Obeng became a vocal critic of the NPP and specifically targeted the leadership of Dr. Bawumia, her former boss. She spearheaded a media campaign questioning his leadership approach, drawing attention to her abrupt political realignment.

Her departure from the NPP was met with backlash, particularly given her past role as National TESCON Coordinator—a key grassroots leadership position within the party’s student wing. Many within the NPP branded her a “traitor.”

Now based at the Jubilee House, Obeng plays a significant role within the Office of the Minister for Government Communications, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
