Former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta will not be able to appear in person before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on June 2, 2025, due to complications related to his health, sources close to him have confirmed.
According to his legal counsel, Frank Davies, official communication regarding Mr. Ofori-Atta’s medical condition has been submitted to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court. Medical reports detailing his current state and scheduled surgical procedures were included to substantiate the request for deferment.
The development comes amid speculation that the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, may once again declare Mr. Ofori-Atta wanted if he fails to appear as scheduled. Mr. Ofori-Atta is currently challenging the legality of a previous decision by the OSP to declare him wanted, a matter now pending before the Human Rights Court. The court has set June 18, 2025, as the date for its ruling on the motion.
The OSP acknowledged the pending legal matter in a statement posted on its official X account on May 28, confirming that the case had been adjourned to June 18 for ruling.
In light of his medical condition, Mr. Ofori-Atta has reportedly expressed willingness to participate in the OSP’s investigation virtually. Sources indicate that he is prepared to provide a cautioned statement remotely, in accordance with the Electronic Transactions Act.
As of now, the Office of the Special Prosecutor has not issued any formal response to the proposed virtual engagement.
