Accra High Court Jurors Go on Strike Over 8 Months of Unpaid Allowances

Jurors serving at the Accra High Court have commenced an indefinite strike starting Monday, June 2, in protest against the non-payment of their allowances for the past eight months.

According to the group, repeated efforts to secure payment have yielded no results. Despite formally notifying the Acting Chief Justice of their decision to suspend their services, the jurors say they have not received any concrete assurances regarding when the outstanding payments will be made.

Speaking to Citi News, spokesperson Joshua Alorgbey emphasized that members can no longer continue working without receiving their due allowances.

“We are in the eighth month, and they have not paid the jurors as I speak. The jurors have served a notice to the acting Chief Justice and the Judiciary Service that they are embarking on a strike from today, June 2.

“We had a series of meetings with the acting Chief Justice and the Judicial Service. The series of meetings began in October 2024, but they kept postponing it. The legal year will end very soon. What will become of our money? We cannot continue refinancing or going to court anymore,” he said.

He criticized the delay, describing it as a clear disregard for the financial well-being of the jurors.
