Renowned broadcast journalist and media personality Bridget Otoo has officially joined the Office of the President as a Presidential Staffer in charge of Government Communications under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
Bridget’s new role places her at the center of state messaging and media coordination, making her a key figure in shaping the government’s communication strategy throughout this term.
Well-known for her fearless commentary and outspoken advocacy on national issues, Bridget Otoo has built a distinguished media career—from her early days as a news anchor to her more recent work as a freelance journalist. Her bold and often unapologetic style has earned her respect within Ghana’s media and political landscape.
In a heartfelt message shared on her official Facebook page, Bridget reflected on her journey to this new role:
“So it begins… On January 7, I awoke like most Ghanaians, jittery with anticipation and ready to witness the swearing-in of our new President – a President chosen in a historic landslide victory to reset the fates of our beloved country, Ghana.”
She revealed that instead of celebrating in person, she had to follow the events from a hospital bed due to an unexpected medical admission following a routine checkup. Despite that, she remained deeply connected to the moment through updates from her husband, Van, and his cousin Richard.
Bridget expressed profound gratitude to President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama for their confidence in her, and extended thanks to Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Stan Xoese Dogbe, Felix Kwakye Fosu, and the grassroots of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their unwavering support.
“With all the faith and trust I have in the NDC government, I was deeply honoured to be considered for a role in helping shape its mandate, once I was back on my feet,” she stated.
Bridget Otoo’s appointment has drawn significant attention from political and media analysts alike, many viewing her entry into public service as a seamless transition from advocacy to implementation. Her vast experience in media is expected to bolster the administration’s engagement with the public and enhance the effectiveness of government communication.
