World Vision Ghana and its microfinance arm, VisionFund Ghana, have firmly distanced themselves from a fraudulent loan scheme operating under the name “World Vision Foundation Loan”. The scam is being used to deceive unsuspecting members of the public by falsely claiming affiliation with the respected humanitarian organization.
In a joint press statement released on Friday, June 27, the two institutions clarified that World Vision Ghana does not offer loans of any kind, and that VisionFund Ghana — the only officially recognized financial institution associated with World Vision in Ghana — does not require any advance payment or upfront fees for its services.
The fraudulent scheme, promoted through satellite television, social media, and other channels, has led to individuals being misled into transferring money under false pretenses.
“Those soliciting funds have falsely claimed affiliation with World Vision,” the statement warned. “We urge the public to verify all loan offers through official VisionFund Ghana channels and to avoid sending money in advance for any loan.”
In response to the growing misuse of their name, the organisations have launched a nationwide public education campaign dubbed “Our Identity; Our Integrity”. The initiative seeks to inform the public about the scam, safeguard Ghanaians from falling victim, and reaffirm the organisations’ commitment to transparency and ethical service delivery.
World Vision Ghana and VisionFund Ghana are encouraging anyone who has been affected, or who has encountered suspicious activity, to report such incidents to law enforcement as well as to the two organisations. The issue has also been reported to the police for investigation.
Furthermore, television stations that aired the deceptive advertisements are being formally notified to cease any further broadcast of the misleading content.
“We call on the media to play a critical role in protecting the public by refusing to broadcast or promote these fraudulent advertisements,” the release added.
