Ghana Signs Partnership with Jamaica to Export Teachers and Nurses

Ghanaian nurses and teachers will soon be able to take up employment opportunities in Jamaica following a new bilateral agreement between the two countries.

The development was announced by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, after a meeting with Jamaican Foreign Minister, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, during the recent Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) summit held in Brussels.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Saturday, May 24, 2025, Mr. Ablakwa described the outcome of the talks as “immensely successful,” highlighting the agreement as part of a broader “special bilateral partnership.”

Under this arrangement, Jamaica will receive qualified Ghanaian professionals, particularly nurses and teachers, to support its public service sectors. The initiative aims to address staffing gaps in Jamaica while providing employment opportunities for skilled Ghanaians abroad.

"This new arrangement creates real opportunities for our professionals who are ready to work abroad," Mr. Ablakwa stated.

Beyond the personnel exchange, the partnership signals a growing commitment by both nations to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties. Ghana and Jamaica are expected to engage in regular political consultations and collaborate on key sectors including trade, education, agriculture, tourism, culture, and sports.

This agreement marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s foreign employment strategy and reflects deepening cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean.
