Parliament reconvenes today for final session of 2025

Parliament is set to resume sittings today, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, for the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament — marking the final session of the legislative year.

The sitting is expected to be a busy and eventful one, with the highlight being the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, scheduled for mid-November.

Two newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament — Bernard Bediako Baidoo for Akwatia and Professor Alidu Seidu for Tamale Central — will also be officially sworn in during this meeting.

Additionally, the Appointments Committee is set to vet Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, who has been nominated for the position of Chief Justice.

As part of renewed efforts to strengthen the fight against illegal mining, government is expected to lay before the House a legislative instrument to repeal L.I. 2462, which currently grants the President authority to permit mining activities within forest reserves.

Members of Parliament will also deliberate on key national issues, including bills, motions, and policy statements from various ministries and government agencies, as the House concludes its work for the 2025 legislative year.
