NAIMOS Raids Notorious ‘Gangway’ Hideout at Aboso, Arrests Illegal Miners

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has successfully dismantled a notorious galamsey hideout known as “Gangway” at Aboso in the Western Region. The area, infamous for illegal mining and criminal activities, was raided during a major intelligence-led operation on Monday, October 5, 2025.

The swoop, conducted in the Prestea-Huni Valley District, resulted in the destruction of several makeshift structures used as shelters and drug dens within the enclave. According to NAIMOS officials, the raid forms part of a broader crackdown on illegal mining activities and the criminal networks that support them.

During the operation, the task force seized a range of mining equipment believed to have been used in unauthorized mining operations that continue to harm the environment. Several individuals involved in illegal mining, gambling, drug abuse, and narcotics trading were also arrested after voluntarily surrendering to the authorities.

The team further recovered significant quantities of illegal substances, including eleven parcels of Indian hemp, and other hard drugs found in possession of the suspects.

NAIMOS has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining such enforcement exercises across mining hotspots nationwide, warning that all persons engaged in unlawful mining or related criminal activities will be brought to justice.
