Replacing Bawumia Would Be a Setback for NPP and Ghana – 15 Eastern Region MPs

Fifteen of the 23 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament in the Eastern Region have declared their support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in his bid to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

The MPs cautioned that replacing Dr. Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer in the January 2026 contest could set both the NPP and Ghana back by 16 years. Addressing the press in Nkawkaw on Wednesday, they argued that Ghanaians are increasingly embracing Dr. Bawumia’s policy vision, much of which they said has been validated since the 2024 elections.

“After all the propaganda thrown at the NPP in 2024, it is becoming evident that many of Dr. Bawumia’s proposals were right. Today, more Ghanaians are warming up to his ideas. Changing him now would be setting ourselves back another 16 years,” the MPs stressed.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Achiase MP Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo described Dr. Bawumia as the party’s strongest option to secure victory in 2028.

“Having been well marketed and having served as Ghana’s most impactful Vice President, he is the best option both politically and policy-wise to win us the election,” he said.

The MPs also praised Dr. Bawumia’s leadership qualities, noting his humility, inclusiveness, and effectiveness. “He is humble, effective, and open to all. We need a leader who unites, not one who divides,” they added, pledging to campaign vigorously for him across the region.
