The People’s National Party (PNP) has formally petitioned the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to probe what it calls an “unprecedented” allocation of Gh₵78 million to the Office of Government Communication, headed by Minister Felix Ofosu Kwakye.
In a petition dated Monday, September 8, and addressed to EOCO’s Executive Director, Mr. Raymond Acher, the PNP leadership argued that the budgetary allocation—captured in the 2025 national budget—raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and prudent use of public resources.
The party questioned why an office that does not hold ministerial status has received more funds than the Ministry of Information, which previously managed six agencies. By contrast, Mr. Ofosu Kwakye’s office currently oversees only three agencies.

The petition seeks clarification on:
-
Which agencies fall under the minister’s oversight,
-
How these agencies were reassigned, and
-
Their respective budgets prior to the restructuring.
The PNP further alleged that part of the Gh₵78 million could be channelled to selected media houses, civil society groups, and influential individuals in ways that may bolster the political interests of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). The party stressed that its action is aimed at protecting accountability in public financial management, not partisan advantage.
“In a time of economic hardship, with youth unemployment, poor infrastructure, and under-resourced public institutions, such opaque allocations must be fully scrutinised,” the petition stated.
PNP Founder and Leader, Janet Asana Nabla, urged EOCO to demand a detailed breakdown of the allocation, verify the agencies under the minister’s authority, and publish its findings to restore public trust.
“We voted for leaders to serve Ghana, not to enrich themselves or entrench political control through questionable funding strategies,” the petition concluded.
