Mahama Submits Election-Violence Report to Attorney-General, Assures Justice for Victims

President John Dramani Mahama has formally submitted the report of the probe into election-related violence to the Attorney-General for the necessary legal and administrative actions.

The report, which covers incidents from the 2020 and 2024 elections, documents the victims, circumstances, and consequences of the violence. President Mahama pledged that government will fully implement its recommendations, including providing adequate compensation to those affected.

“Last week, I received the investigative report on the two incidents. It details and catalogues everyone who was affected by the violence and the circumstances that led to it,” the President said during a courtesy call by executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), led by its president, Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor.

“We have handed it over to the Attorney-General, who will review it and, where necessary, hold people culpable and bring them to book,” he added. According to him, the Attorney-General has also been tasked with determining appropriate compensation packages for victims and their families, including those who lost loved ones or suffered lasting injuries.

President Mahama emphasized that the repercussions of electoral violence extend beyond political actors, noting that journalists and innocent bystanders have also suffered in the line of duty.
