President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will make budgetary allocations for the creative and cultural industries in the next fiscal year.
Speaking at a media engagement on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the President said the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen the sector through targeted policy interventions.
“The Blackstar Experience will take off. They have been working on all the foundational issues and you will soon see a sign of it. In the next budget we are going to make some allocation for the creative arts — for the film fund, to support Kumawood and all filmmakers, to support the music industry, the arts, and more. We need to put our money where our mouths are. The creative arts are a good representation of our culture and who we are as a people,” President Mahama stated.

He stressed the economic importance of the industry, noting that it generates employment more rapidly than many traditional sectors.
“Creative industries create jobs faster than the traditional sectors we have known. While cocoa or manufacturing might create one job, the creative sector, digitalisation, and the knowledge industry could create five. That is why we must continue to invest in it, and that is why we created a ministry to oversee it together with tourism,” he explained.
