The Tema Development Company (TDC) Limited has accused the Tema Central Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who also previously served as a protocol officer under a former TDC Managing Director, of unlawfully selling a state-owned plot of land in Tema Community 5 to his wife for just GHS2,000.
According to TDC, the land—situated behind Tema Secondary School—had originally been earmarked for the construction of a public toilet facility. The revelation forms part of the company’s ongoing campaign to reclaim illegally acquired lands for public use and housing development.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, September 4, TDC Managing Director Courage Makafui Nunekpeku said the staff member’s contract was terminated after an internal investigation.

“The NPP Tema Central Constituency Secretary sold that place to his wife at the cost of GHS2,000. The documents are with me, I can make them available. When I looked into the matter, I said no way. I engaged the woman and terminated the contract,” Mr. Nunekpeku explained.
He stressed that the land has since been reclaimed for state development purposes. “I am not grabbing any land. I am simply doing what is right for the Ghanaian people. That place is now for the state and will be used as a public toilet,” he added.
Meanwhile, responding to concerns raised by the Peaceful Settlers’ Association against the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly—over attempts to seize lands they claim ownership of despite a court injunction—Mr. Nunekpeku said TDC is working with all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful resolution.
