The Eastern South Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Alhaji Sofo Azorka, National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), over an alleged assault during the Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025.
According to police, the incident involved Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Alhaji Azorka was picked up in Tamale on Wednesday, September 10, as part of ongoing investigations.
In a statement, the police disclosed that Azorka was granted bail after giving a caution statement and has been directed to report to the Eastern South Regional Command in Kyebi on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10 a.m., when he will be formally arraigned before the court.

“The suspect has been cautioned and released on bail to report to the Regional Command on the said date,” the statement noted.
The police further assured the public of a thorough investigation, emphasizing their commitment to law and order. “We entreat all parties and the general public to remain calm as we continue with our investigations and provide updates in due course,” the statement added.
