The Ghana Police Service has recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and other items believed to be connected to the recent gold shop robbery at Mpohor, describing the breakthrough as a major step in its ongoing investigations. One suspect has since been arrested.
In a statement, the Police said officers on anti-robbery patrol in the Kuntanase District of the Ashanti Region intercepted a suspicious white Toyota Sienta along the Aputuoagya–Bekwai road on August 17. Upon spotting the patrol team, two men standing by the vehicle fled into a nearby bush.
A search of the abandoned car uncovered an AK-47 assault rifle, a locally made firearm, two AK-47 magazines fully loaded with 30 rounds each, additional packets of ammunition, cowrie shells, a Huawei smartphone, identity documents, and several clothing items.

Investigators noted that some of the clothing items — particularly hooded tops and wellington boots — closely matched those worn by the suspects captured in CCTV footage during the Mpohor robbery.
The Police Administration has commended the Kuntanase patrol team for their vigilance and professionalism. Security operations have since been intensified nationwide as the manhunt for the remaining suspects continues.
According to the Police, the recovery of these items represents a crucial breakthrough in efforts to bring the perpetrators of the Mpohor gold shop robbery to justice.
