Police Recover Blood-Stained Weapons Tied to Murder of Immigration Officer

The Ghana Police Service has uncovered chilling forensic evidence in the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, whose charred remains were found in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra, on July 9, 2025. Officer Amoah, who was stationed at the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) headquarters, had been declared missing five days earlier, on July 4, sparking an intensive manhunt.

Speaking at a press conference on August 4, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, gave a detailed update on the investigation. She revealed that the suspect, Bright Aweh—originally charged with kidnapping—has now been formally charged with murder following new forensic discoveries.

According to COP Donkor, forensic teams uncovered disturbing evidence at several locations tied to the suspect. At the suspect’s residence, investigators found bloodstains in the living room and signs of an attempted cleanup, including freshly painted walls and an empty spray paint can.

Additional searches near the GBC Satellite area led to the discovery of a blood-stained, burnt wooden carpet and partially burnt camouflage fabric—both retrieved and submitted for forensic testing.

The investigation intensified on July 24 after police secured a court warrant for a deeper search of the suspect’s home. This yielded more blood evidence, which was carefully documented and sampled.

One of the most critical findings came from a bush approximately 100 metres from the suspect's residence. There, police retrieved a fufu pestle wrapped in plastic, visibly stained with blood. Further examination of the suspect’s vehicle also revealed traces of blood, and samples from the car were collected for analysis.

Initial forensic results have confirmed that the blood found at the various scenes is of human origin. To establish a direct link to the victim, DNA samples were obtained from Officer Amoah’s mother and son for comparison.

With the growing body of evidence, Bright Aweh has been re-arrested and charged with murder. He is currently in remand custody following his appearance at the Adabraka District Court and is expected back in court on August 8, 2025.

COP Donkor also disclosed that police are actively pursuing additional suspects. “A special operation is underway to identify and apprehend any accomplices involved,” she said. “We are following several key leads to ensure all those responsible are brought to justice.”

The case has sparked widespread public concern, as details of the gruesome murder unfold. Authorities are urging the public to remain calm and support ongoing investigations by providing any relevant information.
