Government Raises Cocoa Producer Price to $5,040 Per Tonne ( Over 60% ) Starting August 7

The government has announced a substantial increase in the cocoa producer price for the 2025/2026 season, raising it by more than 60% in a move aimed at boosting farmer incomes and strengthening the cocoa sector.

The new rate sees the price jump from US$3,100 to US$5,040 per tonne—a 62.58% increase in dollar terms. The adjustment aligns with the government’s commitment to ensure cocoa farmers receive a fairer share of the global market value, representing 70% of the Free-On-Board (FOB) price of US$7,200 per tonne.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who chairs the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), announced the change on Monday, August 4. He noted that the decision reflects President John Mahama’s promise to prioritize cocoa farmers' welfare by linking producer prices more directly to international market rates.

With the prevailing exchange rate of GH¢10.25 to the US dollar, farmers are set to earn GH¢51,660 per tonne or GH¢3,228.75 per 64kg bag starting August 7, 2025.

The increase marks a notable shift from the previous season under the former administration, which paid farmers 63.9% of an FOB value of US$4,850.

The new pricing is expected to bring significant relief to cocoa farmers and help revitalize Ghana’s cocoa industry.
