An helicopter has crashed and gone up in flames at Adansi Akrofuom (Brofoyedu) in the Ashanti Region, with multiple casualties feared. The incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Eyewitnesses say the aircraft, which reportedly operates on the Accra–Obuasi route every Wednesday, collided with a tree under unclear circumstances and was completely consumed by fire.
Matthew Baah, the Assembly Member for the area, confirmed the crash in an interview on Adom FM’s Kasiebo Is Tasty. He said he was on his farm when he received a call alerting him to the tragedy.
“After the crash, there was an eerie silence. Locals rushed to the site and found the helicopter engulfed in flames,” he said.
Initial reports suggest at least four individuals may have been on board, as human remains were discovered at the crash site. However, the identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.
Mr. Baah indicated that bad weather may have played a role in the accident, though investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.
In an official statement released today, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that the helicopter, en route to Obuasi, had gone off radar. According to the GAF, the aircraft had eight occupants—three crew members and five passengers—who were traveling to attend the launch of the government's Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP), an initiative aimed at reforming Ghana’s artisanal and small-scale mining sector.
Authorities are continuing recovery efforts, and more information is expected as the investigation progresses.
This is a developing story.
