Tensions boiled over outside the Adabraka District Court in Accra on Friday following proceedings in the case of the late immigration officer, Stephen King Amoah.
The second accused, Thomas Zigah, appeared before the court, where his lawyer petitioned that he be sent to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital instead of the Police Hospital, citing deteriorating health and red eyes observed while in custody.
Prosecutors strongly opposed the request, noting Zigah had already been treated and discharged twice at the Police Hospital. They argued that the defence had not provided any valid reason for preferring Korle Bu. The court upheld the prosecution’s objection, ruling that a formal application would be required before any hospital transfer could be considered.

The defence further sought a one-week adjournment to obtain a medical report after the accused’s next hospital visit. This, too, was opposed by the prosecution, which explained that investigations had extended beyond Accra, making it impossible to conclude inquiries within such a short period. The court subsequently adjourned the case to September 4, 2025.
However, drama unfolded immediately after proceedings. Outside the courtroom, family members of the slain officer accosted the defence lawyer, attempting to attack him as he made his way to his vehicle.
The situation quickly escalated into chaos, prompting police officers on duty to intervene. In the scuffle, the lawyer was briefly mobbed before being rushed back into the courtroom for his protection. He was later escorted under heavy police security to his car to prevent further confrontation.
