More than 100 traders in Ashaiman staged a peaceful protest on Monday, August 18, 2025, accusing the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) of attempting to evict them from their trading area near the Ashaiman traffic light.
The traders allege that the assembly is acting in the interest of a private developer, despite an ongoing court case over the ownership and use of the land. Many of the protesters, dressed in red to signify their displeasure, carried placards and chanted slogans to demand justice.
According to the traders, they possess valid legal documents that authorize their operations on the disputed land. They argued that any attempt to remove them before the court delivers its ruling amounts to a violation of their rights.

Speaking on behalf of the group, spokesperson Jeffrey Eli criticized the assembly’s actions, describing them as a “blatant disregard for the rule of law.” He added, “They are manipulating the system to forcibly take over the land despite the pending legal process. We will resist any removal until the court decides.”
Other traders who spoke to the media echoed similar frustrations, calling the assembly’s move an injustice that threatens their livelihoods.
The protest, which drew the attention of security personnel, remained calm and orderly with no incidents of violence reported.
The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly has not yet responded to the allegations raised by the traders.
