The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has accused the party’s leadership of openly favouring Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the race for the party’s presidential ticket.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 28, 2025, and signed by campaign spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng Esq, the team criticised what it described as the NPP’s “shameless projection” of Dr. Bawumia as the preferred establishment candidate.
The statement condemned the use of the party’s official social media platforms to exclusively broadcast Dr. Bawumia’s nomination filing event, arguing that such an act undermines the unity and fairness the party leadership often preaches.

“The use of the official party’s social media handles to stream only DMB’s nomination filing is a betrayal of the very unity our national leadership claims to preach,” the statement read.
According to the Agyapong campaign, the incident reflects a broader pattern of bias within the party, designed to give the Vice President undue advantage — a situation they claim mirrors previous internal contests.
Kwarteng further linked this alleged bias to the party’s poor electoral performance in 2024, noting significant vote losses nationwide.
“Under his watch, we recorded the worst results in our party’s history: a 31% drop in national votes, a 16% decline in northern votes, a 33% fall in southern votes, and virtually no support from the Zongo communities,” he stated.
The campaign argued that instead of confronting these setbacks and rebuilding trust, the leadership has continued to promote Dr. Bawumia, thereby deepening divisions within the party.
“At such a time, the priority should be rebuilding a stronger, united party to restore hope and confidence. Instead, leadership continues to impose the very candidate under whom we suffered these losses, shamelessly projecting him as the ‘establishment choice’ by giving him undue advantages and platforms,” Kwarteng added.
The statement concluded with a warning that if the trend of favoritism persists, other aspirants may be forced to pursue their own course outside the party’s current leadership direction.
“If this continues, leadership should not be surprised when other candidates begin to take their destiny into their own hands. The grassroots will not be forced into silence while the future of the party is mortgaged for one individual. Never!” the campaign cautioned.
