Government Slashes Passport Fees from GH¢500 to GH¢350

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced a proposed reduction in ordinary passport fees from GH¢500 to GH¢350 as part of the Amended Fees and Charges submitted to Parliament.

In a social media update on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the minister explained that the move aligns with the government’s commitment to making passports more affordable and accessible to Ghanaians, while still maintaining high security and service standards.

“The amended Fees and Charges for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented to Parliament duly capture the Ordinary Passport Fees reduction from GH¢500.00 to GH¢350.00,” Ablakwa wrote. “Thankfully, Ghanaians gave the NDC the emphatic numbers in Parliament to ensure this is approved in the coming days.”

He also emphasized that, despite the fee reduction, the government has implemented significant reforms to improve passport service delivery. “It is remarkable that even with plans for a substantial reduction in fees, we’ve introduced unprecedented reforms that have made the process more convenient, efficient, professional, and faster through courier services,” he said.

Ablakwa reaffirmed the Mahama-led administration’s dedication to fulfilling its promises to the Ghanaian people, highlighting this initiative as a clear demonstration of that commitment.
