Daddy Lumba’s Death Saved His Legacy – Mystic Twins Claim

Ghanaian spiritual duo, the Mystic Twins—comprising McMaine and McKenzie—have stirred controversy with claims that the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba’s reputation would have been ruined had he lived longer.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with host Kwame Dadzie, the twins suggested that Lumba's passing at age 60 may have protected his legacy. “If Daddy Lumba had lived up to 70 or 80, his name would have been spoilt. Legends don’t live for long. He lived too long,” they said.

According to the Mystic Twins, known privately as Nana Akwasi Agyemang Panyin (McMaine) and Nana Akwasi Agyemang Kakra (McKenzie), rumors and negative stories had already begun circulating about Lumba before his death. They believe this pattern is common with spiritual figures and musical legends.

Discussing the intersection of spirituality and the music industry, the twins criticized what they termed as “emotional opportunism” by some self-proclaimed prophets. They insisted that death prophecies targeting celebrities hold no spiritual power. “We are messengers from God; you’ll go after you’re done delivering your message,” they stated.

Citing a recent prophecy about dancehall star Shatta Wale by Counselor DY Donkor, the Mystic Twins dismissed it as baseless. “When Shatta Wale’s time comes, he’ll go—but not through fake prophecies,” they asserted.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the age of 60. His death was confirmed by a family representative through his radio station, DLFM. Widely considered one of the greatest figures in Ghanaian music history, Lumba leaves behind a legacy spanning over three decades, marked by countless hit songs and an indelible impact on Highlife music.
