The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested nine individuals believed to be behind a series of residential armed robberies within the Kumasi Metropolis.
During the operation, one suspect was fatally wounded in a gunfire exchange with police officers. He was rushed to the hospital but later pronounced dead. Another suspect who also sustained gunshot injuries is currently receiving medical treatment under heavy police surveillance.
Those in custody include: Kelvin Adomako - 29, Daniel Dwomoh - 46, Kwadwo Kyei Baffour - 39, Joseph Oppong - 29, Bernard Owusu Ansah - 27, Kwadwo Konadu - 27, James Asare Boateng - 26, Emmanuel Asiedu - 27, Maxwell Gyimah - 31.
Police reports indicate the suspects were armed with pump-action shotguns, pistols, and other offensive weapons. Items retrieved from their hideout include several laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and two Toyota Corolla vehicles believed to have been stolen.
At a press briefing on Monday, June 30, Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe disclosed that one of the suspects, Kwabena Baffour, confessed to participating in the robberies and admitted to committing rape during one of the attacks.
Another suspect, Yahaya Nuhu, remains on the run. Authorities say efforts are underway to track him down and bring him to justice.
The police have reassured the public of their unwavering commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the region.
