Expect More Rains as We Enters Peak of Rainy Season - GMet Warns

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a warning to the public to prepare for intensified rainfall in June 2025.

Frederick Cudjoe, a meteorologist at GMet’s Central Analysis and Forecast Office, stated that the country is gradually approaching the peak of the rainy season, with increased rainfall anticipated, particularly in the Greater Accra Region.

In an interview on Ghana Tonight on TV3,  Cudjoe revealed that GMet forecasts between 405 and 675.1 millimetres of rainfall from April through June this year. He added that heavier downpours are expected in the Eastern Region.

Cudjoe advised local authorities and residents to take preventive actions such as desilting gutters and removing illegal structures from waterways to mitigate the risk of flooding.

In response to the anticipated rains and their potential impact, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), in collaboration with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, to begin a large-scale decongestion exercise in Accra’s Central Business District (CBD) today, Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

The operation seeks to restore order and enhance sanitation in key areas around the AMA Head Office, including Kinbu Road to Railways, ECG Junction to the King Tackie Tawiah Statue, and from Opera Square towards Adabraka.
