JUST IN: PBC workers call for CEO’s head

Workers of Produce Buying Company (PBC) have called for the dismissal of the Chief Executive Officer, Kofi Owusu, over what they described as lack of managerial skills.

The workers are bemoaning the current unimpressive operational results of the company, and are casting blame on top management of the company including the Chief Executive Officer.

The demand follows a demonstration held at the premises of the company’s head office in Accra this morning.

According to a statement by the employees, the once number one company on the Company’s Club 100 ranking has seen its fortunes gone from bad to worst under its current management.

The workers attributed this to incompetence accusing the CEO and Board Chair of running down the company.

“The chairman (82 years old) and the CEO (73 Years) have both been off the corporate landscape for more than 20 years prior to their appointment and are not abreast with modern trends of business and corporate governance”, the statement read.

The communique further highlighted the challenges being faced by the company as a result of the current situation, most of which are financial related.

Also, the unsatisfied workers disclosed that “The Company struggles to pay salaries and the statutory deductions (i.e. GRA, SSNIT, TIER 2&3) which have been in arrears for several months. The company since April this year has not been able to raise funds to purchase cocoa. Cocoa procured by agents of PBC with our infrastructure are handed over to our competitors because PBC cannot pay for the stocks.”

The workers through the statement have made a number of requests to government who owns about 70% of the company, including the removal of the CEO and other top management officers of the company.

“It is our plea that the President change the Board chairman, the CEO and the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (in charge of operations)”.
