Woman allegedly stabs husband during argument over food in Maamaso

A domestic disagreement over dinner turned violent in Maamaso, near New Abirem in the Birim North District, leaving a 29-year-old man critically injured after being stabbed by his 21-year-old wife, identified only as Maafua.

According to reports, the incident occurred following a heated argument over the evening meal on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. The victim, Kofi, was rushed to the hospital with severe stab wounds and is currently receiving treatment at the Koforidua Government Hospital.

The suspect, Maafua, is in police custody and has given a statement explaining her version of events. She told police that the dispute began after her husband gave her money to prepare banku and okro stew. However, she decided to cook light soup instead, claiming the money provided was insufficient for the meal he requested.

When Kofi returned home and discovered the change, he confronted her, sparking a verbal exchange that quickly turned physical. Maafua alleged that during the fight, Kofi picked up a knife, which she managed to seize from him before allegedly using it to stab him.

However, eyewitness accounts appear to contradict her version. A neighbour, Atta Mallam, told Adom News that the suspect acted with intent during the altercation. Kofi’s brother, Francis, who was in a nearby room, said he rushed to the scene after hearing a commotion and found his brother bleeding heavily. He immediately arranged for his evacuation to the hospital.

The local police have launched a full investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the stabbing and to verify conflicting accounts from the suspect and witnesses.
