Conduct a healthy, issue-based campaign — Akufo-Addo urges NPP flagbearer aspirants

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged all New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirants to conduct their campaigns in a healthy and issue-based manner, focusing on their visions for the party and the nation rather than personal attacks.

Speaking at a breakfast meeting held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at his private residence in Nima, Accra, the former President said he holds each of the five aspirants in high esteem, having worked closely with them during his tenure. He commended their dedication, competence, and long-standing service to both the NPP and Ghana.

The meeting, convened by Mr. Akufo-Addo, sought to promote unity and camaraderie among the aspirants ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, and to emphasise the need for a cohesive and energised NPP capable of winning the 2028 general elections.

“My primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and to ensuring a fully energised party ready to secure victory in 2028,” the former President stated.

He expressed gratitude to the aspirants for honouring his invitation despite their busy schedules, describing their presence as a sign of shared commitment to the collective good and the future of the NPP.

Mr. Akufo-Addo reiterated his belief that all the aspirants are running on merit, given their “significant contributions to the growth and success” of the party.

In a show of solidarity, all five aspirants assured the former President that they—and their campaign teams—would maintain a respectful and competitive campaign environment, pledging to support the eventual winner to preserve party unity after the primaries.

The former President thanked them for their positive engagement and urged the party leadership to ensure a credible, transparent, and fair process that would strengthen internal cohesion as the NPP prepares for the next general elections.
