Six people have been confirmed dead following the collapse of a galamsey pit at Kasotie in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region. Four others were rescued alive and are receiving treatment at a health facility.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night when the miners were trapped underground after the pit caved in.
Rescue efforts, led by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) with support from emergency services and community volunteers, are still underway as more miners are feared trapped.

After hours of digging through rubble, rescue teams managed to retrieve the bodies of the six deceased miners, which have since been deposited at the morgue.
The operation has been slowed by underground water seepage, which has complicated the rescue process.
Assembly Member for the Kasotie Electoral Area, Samuel Ayine, confirmed the tragic incident and said authorities remain on high alert as efforts continue to save any remaining victims.
