Dennis Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticised politicians who refuse to concede defeat after losing elections, describing such behaviour as cowardly and dangerous to Ghana’s democracy.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, October 16, Mr. Aboagye cautioned that genuine leadership is demonstrated through courage and a commitment to national peace, especially in moments of political tension.
“A presidential candidate who refuses to concede defeat in the face of an obvious loss—at a time when there are multiple incidents of violence across the country—is a coward and a danger to our democracy. Courageous leaders act in time to save our peace,” he wrote.

His comments appear to be a direct response to statements made by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, an NPP presidential hopeful, who recently declared that he would never concede defeat in an election until the Electoral Commission (EC) officially announces the final results.
Addressing party delegates in the Savannah Region on Wednesday, October 15, Mr. Agyapong argued that any concession before the EC’s official declaration would be premature.
“Until the last constituency results are declared, if I am a presidential candidate, I will never accept defeat. I will never accept defeat until the Electoral Commission comes out to declare,” he stated.
Mr. Aboagye’s remarks underscore growing concerns within the NPP about rhetoric that could undermine public confidence in electoral processes and national stability ahead of the 2028 general elections.
