Police Investigate Truck Intercepted With 36 Sacks of Suspected Indian Hemp at Asesewa

The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations after a truck loaded with 36 sacks of substances suspected to be Indian hemp was intercepted on the Sekesua road in the Eastern Region.

According to the Police, the incident occurred on September 30, when officers from the Eastern Regional Headquarters in Koforidua stopped a Kia truck with registration number ER-760-23.

A search of the vehicle revealed that it was partially filled with sawdust, but hidden within were 36 sacks of dried substances believed to be narcotics.

The truck was subsequently moved to the Sekesua Police Station. However, the driver and his mate managed to escape custody, abandoning the vehicle. The Police have intensified efforts to re-arrest the two suspects.

Currently, the truck and all 36 sacks of the suspected narcotics are being held at the Eastern Regional Command as investigations continue.

In a statement, the Police dismissed circulating reports suggesting that the sacks had mysteriously turned into sawdust. “We urge the public to disregard such false claims,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has also launched an internal investigation into the incident, while security teams continue to track down the escaped suspects.
