A renewed chieftaincy dispute between the communities of Asemko and Butre in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region has turned deadly, leaving one person beheaded and nearly 80 percent of houses in Asemko destroyed by fire.
The violent confrontation reportedly erupted after residents of Asemko attempted to install their own chief, reigniting a long-standing leadership dispute between the two neighboring communities. What began as a local ceremony quickly descended into chaos, resulting in extensive destruction and panic among residents.
Witnesses described scenes of devastation as homes and properties were torched, forcing several families to flee for safety.

Local authorities and security agencies have since deployed personnel to the area, but tension remains high as efforts continue to restore calm and investigate the circumstances leading to the deadly clashes.
Officials have urged residents to remain peaceful while the matter is being addressed through lawful and traditional mediation processes.
