National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has declared his readiness to contest for the National Chairmanship of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) — but only if the current Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, decides not to seek re-election.
In an interview, the former Odododiodio MP said his decision would be entirely dependent on the political future of Mr. Asiedu Nketia.
“If the current Chairman, my very good brother Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is not contesting, I will contest,” he stated.

Mr. Vanderpuye’s comments follow reports that Asiedu Nketia is considering a possible bid in the NDC’s presidential primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The speculation has reignited internal discussions within the party about who might succeed the long-serving party strategist, who has played key roles in the NDC’s leadership and organisation over the years.
