The Junior Doctors’ Association of Ghana (JDA-GH) has announced a nationwide strike, citing over a year of unpaid salaries and what it describes as persistent neglect by the government and the Ministry of Health.
In a press release dated October 2, 2025, the Association stated that repeated engagements with authorities had failed to yield results, leaving its members with no option but to withdraw their services.
Key Issues Raised by JDA-GH
-
Unpaid Salaries: More than 200 junior doctors have reportedly worked between 10 and 14 months without pay.
-
Payroll Disruptions: Several medical officers already on the government payroll have had their salaries abruptly halted without explanation.
-
Delayed Postings: Over 800 medical officers have been left awaiting official posting for more than 16 months.
Phased Strike Action
The strike will be rolled out in two stages:
-
Phase One – Outpatient Services: From Tuesday, October 7 to Thursday, October 9, 2025, all outpatient services will be suspended.
-
Phase Two – Emergency Services: Beginning Friday, October 10, 2025, emergency services will also be withdrawn if the issues remain unresolved.

While current inpatients will continue to receive care until their discharge, no new patients will be admitted during the industrial action.
The Association stressed that it would no longer tolerate the “exploitation” of its members, holding the Ministry of Health and the Government of Ghana solely responsible for any disruptions in healthcare delivery.
The statement concluded with a call for immediate intervention from stakeholders to avert further escalation.
The release was signed by JDA President, Dr. (Med) Louis Aja Nkrumah, and General Secretary, Dr. (Med) Rhoda Wun-nam Amadu.
