Inflation Falls to 9.4% in September 2025, Lowest in Four Years

Ghana’s year-on-year inflation rate dropped sharply to 9.4% in September 2025, down from 11.5% in August, marking the lowest level since August 2021. This represents the ninth consecutive monthly decline and the first time in four years that inflation has returned to single digits.

Data released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) indicates a sustained slowdown in price pressures, signaling progress towards macroeconomic stability. The Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, highlighted that the decline reflects easing pressures that had fueled inflation in recent months.

  • Food inflation fell from 14.8% in August to 11.0% in September.

  • Non-food inflation dropped slightly to 8.2% from 8.7%.

  • Inflation for locally produced items declined to 10.1% from 12.2%.

  • Imported items recorded a further dip to 7.4%, compared to 9.5% in August.

On the regional front, disparities remain significant. The North East Region posted the highest inflation rate at 20.1%, more than double the national average. Conversely, the Bono East Region recorded the lowest rate at just 1.2%.

This trend, according to experts, reinforces optimism that Ghana is firmly consolidating gains in price stability after years of economic challenges.
