GRIDCo to Temporarily Shut Down Akosombo–Nkawkaw Transmission Line for Highway Expansion


The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced a planned shutdown of the 161kV Akosombo–Nkawkaw transmission line from Sunday, October 5, to Tuesday, October 14, 2025.


According to GRIDCo, the line will be taken out of service to enable the relocation of two transmission towers along the Kumasi–Accra highway. 


The relocation forms part of ongoing road expansion works being undertaken by the Ghana Highway Authority.

GRIDCo has assured the public that adequate measures are in place to maintain stable electricity supply during the shutdown period. Engineers will also be on standby to address any unforeseen issues that may arise.


The company apologised for any inconvenience the exercise may cause and reaffirmed its commitment to providing reliable and efficient power transmission services.
