The government will deploy 5,000 graduates in agriculture and veterinary sciences to support the implementation of the Feed Ghana Programme nationwide. The initiative is designed to translate agricultural research into practical solutions and deliver modern extension services to boost productivity.
Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang made the announcement during the 2025 Asogli Yam Festival held in the Volta Region on Sunday, October 5.
She highlighted the importance of the Feed Ghana Programme in addressing critical agricultural challenges such as erratic rainfall, post-harvest losses, and limited market access. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting vegetable farming through the introduction of greenhouse technology, irrigation systems, and other key interventions.

“This year, under the Ministry of Agriculture, the Feed Ghana Programme is being rolled out with substantial allocations to the sector,” she stated. “Supporting projects such as the Vegetable Development Project and the ‘Nkok) Nkititi’ poultry initiative, 5,000 graduates in agriculture and veterinary science will be deployed across the country — including the Volta Region — to work alongside farmers, provide modern extension services, and bridge the gap between research and practice.”
To further encourage youth participation in farming and veterinary services, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang announced that the government will establish credit facilities and agribusiness training programmes in the Volta Region.
She also commended the Asogli Yam Festival for its role in promoting agricultural development and celebrating the contributions of hardworking farmers across the region.
