GNFS Directs Recruits and Officers to Pay Outstanding Feeding Fees

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has directed its recruits, cadets, and some serving officers to settle outstanding feeding fees incurred during their training periods.

The directive, issued in a circular dated October 9, 2025, and signed by the Director of Finance, DCFO Mark Brako-Appiah Jnr, cited funding challenges as the reason behind the decision.

“Due to funding challenges, recruits, cadets, and existing personnel who attended training were required to contribute to subsidise their feeding costs during the training period,” the circular explained.

According to the GNFS, affected personnel have been placed into two categories — those whose arrears will be deducted directly from their bank accounts, and those who must make manual payments. Payments can be made either at the Salaries Office at GNFS Headquarters or deposited into the Service’s account at the Bank of Ghana.

The Service has set December 31, 2025, as the final deadline for all affected officers to clear their balances.

“Personnel are to take note that they have up to December 31, 2025, to complete payment,” the circular stated.

This directive comes amid growing financial pressures within Ghana’s security sector, where reports suggest that some officers have had to personally finance portions of their training and operational costs due to budget constraints.
