Court Halts Prosecution in Ahmed Suale Murder Case

The Madina District Court has discontinued the prosecution of a suspect linked to the 2019 murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, following a directive from the Attorney General’s Office.

Ahmed Suale, a prominent member of the Tiger Eye P.I. investigative team, was shot and killed in January 2019 by unidentified assailants — a crime that sparked national outrage and international calls for justice. Despite years of investigations, the case has seen minimal progress.

The suspect, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, had been charged with murder and abetment of murder in connection with Suale’s death.

However, during proceedings on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfoa Bamfo, informed the court that the Attorney General had advised that the case be discontinued.

“We have been directed to discontinue the case upon the advice of the Attorney General,” she told the court.

Following the prosecution’s withdrawal, the presiding judge ordered the discharge of Daniel Owusu Koranteng.

The decision is expected to renew public concern over the government’s commitment to delivering justice in the Ahmed Suale murder case, which remains unsolved more than six years after the journalist’s death.
