Former Minister of Trade and Industry and leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, is set to officially launch a new political party today.
According to Mr. Kyerematen, the new party’s mission is to build “a united, peaceful, secure, and prosperous Ghana” that guarantees equal opportunities for all citizens to reach their full potential.
This latest move comes after his resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in September 2023, following years of service in the party and in government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Widely known as “Alan Cash,” Mr. Kyerematen cited deep internal divisions and entrenched factionalism within the NPP as reasons for his departure. Soon after, he founded the Movement for Change, a centrist political movement symbolized by a butterfly, which he described as a “credible alternative” to the dominance of the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Despite calls from some NPP members urging him to reconsider his decision, Mr. Kyerematen has stood firm, emphasizing that his presidential ambition remains intact and that his new party represents “the future of Ghana’s political direction.”
