Agric Minister Calls for Corporate Support Ahead of 2025 Farmers Day

Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has appealed to corporate bodies and institutions to support the upcoming 2025 National Farmers Day celebration with donations and sponsorships.

His call followed a donation from Ndede Company Limited, a Ghanaian manufacturer of Wellington boots, which became the first company to contribute to this year’s celebration. The company presented 150 pairs of boots — 80 Tenack Black Ordinary Wellington Boots and 70 Tenack Green Ordinary Wellington Boots — to be distributed to farmers.

Mr. Opoku commended the gesture and urged other companies to emulate it, stressing that agriculture remains the backbone of the country’s development and food security. He assured that all donations will be handled transparently and delivered directly to farmers.

“This donation is not to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, but to the farmers. The Ministry is only a conduit to ensure the smooth transfer of all items received, including the 150 pairs of Wellington boots,” he explained.

The Minister also revealed that preparations are underway for the official launch of the Farmers Day programme, with the venue soon to be confirmed by President John Dramani Mahama. He said the Ministry is working to ensure fairness in the award process by involving technical experts in the selection of winners and publicly showcasing farm assessments for transparency.

“As we speak, our technical team is on the ground compiling a list of genuinely deserving farmers. This year, we are determined to make a difference. The final shortlisted farms will be displayed publicly, so that everyone can see the evidence before winners are announced,” he noted.

He further pledged that all awards will be delivered during the event itself to avoid delays experienced in previous years.

Farmers Are “Special People”
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Nana Ehoa Acquaye, General Manager of Ndede Company Limited, described farmers as “special people” whose work sustains Ghana’s food security. She emphasized that the company’s support was a gesture of appreciation, not for profit, and urged the private sector to invest in farmers and local production.

She disclosed that Ndede Company, which has operated for 30 years, shifted from importing safety gear to local manufacturing in 2024. The donated Tenack Wellington Boots form part of its locally produced line of agricultural footwear designed for farmers and gardeners.

The company also produces safety boots for mining and construction, including steel-toe and steel-plate options.
