Address Administrative Failures Causing Salary Delays – Vanderpuye Urges Government

The National Coordinator of the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has called on the government to urgently address the recurring administrative lapses responsible for delays in paying the salaries of teachers, nurses, and other public sector workers.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Mr. Vanderpuye described the situation as unacceptable and deeply entrenched in Ghana’s administrative structure.

“It is worrying that in this country, teachers, nurses, and other public servants often have to wait months after recruitment before receiving their salaries. This problem keeps recurring and has almost become normalised in our Fourth Republic,” he lamented.

Mr. Vanderpuye attributed the challenge to what he termed a “structural defect” within the public administration system, which, he said, continues to frustrate newly recruited workers.

“I believe it’s a structural problem in our administrative system. We need to ensure that once people are employed, their details are immediately captured in the payroll system so that their benefits and salaries are processed without delay,” he emphasized.

His remarks come on the back of growing agitation among sections of the health and education workforce, many of whom have gone several months—sometimes up to ten—without pay despite being at post.

Mr. Vanderpuye urged the government to implement urgent reforms in the recruitment and payroll management process to ensure fairness, efficiency, and the timely payment of salaries to all public sector employees.
