The Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has appointed Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto, the institution’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, to serve as Interim Vice-Chancellor (VC).
The decision, announced in a notice from the Council Secretariat on September 24, 2025, followed an emergency meeting convened the same day. According to the statement, the appointment was made in line with directives from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
The notice, signed by Registrar and Secretary to Council, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Esq., officially informed the university community, stakeholders, and the general public of the interim leadership arrangement.

The Council assured all stakeholders that the University remains stable, emphasizing that academic and administrative activities will continue seamlessly under Prof. Aheto’s leadership.
The interim appointment comes after the completion of tenure—or removal—of the substantive Vice-Chancellor, creating the need for a temporary arrangement to ensure administrative continuity until a permanent successor is appointed.
