Government to Commit GHC1bn from GETFund to End Double-Track System – Haruna Iddrisu

The government has announced plans to allocate GHC1 billion from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to phase out the double-track system in Senior High Schools (SHSs).

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu made the disclosure on Thursday, September 11, 2025, during the commissioning of a new staff accommodation facility at Accra Girls’ Senior High School.

He explained that the funds would be incorporated into the 2026 national budget to tackle the infrastructure deficit that necessitated the introduction of the double-track system.

“We are committed to ending the double-track system as part of efforts to improve the quality of Senior High School education. In line with this, President Mahama has directed Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson to make a GHC1 billion allocation in the 2026 GETFund formula to support the transition and address the challenges that may arise,” Mr. Iddrisu said.
